Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil – Victims, Enemies, & Old Friends

I don’t think the first track was half over before I ordered this cd off their Bandcamp site last year. Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil are from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and “Victims, Enemies, & Old Friends” is their first full length. Dailey’s plaintive voice compliments songs of tragic relationships and the ensuing emotional wreckage, but their rollicking Americana, with plenty of banjo, mandolin and pedal steel, keeps the album moving at a toe-tapping clip. “Seven Points” is a great example, with the addition of horns, the song pumps along, but listen to the lyrics and you might just shed a tear in your beer.
